Episode 9 - Mike McKnight

- Setting a new 500 mile FKT on 5 hours sleep .

Mike McKnight, also known as a 'The Low Carb Runner' joins us to chat about his successful FKT attempt on The Colorado Trail, losing all his trail shoes at the start and how he runs on so little sleep.

After a skiing accident Mike suffered a badly broken back and he was told he wouldn't run for a year! He ran a 10k 6 weeks later!

On September 21, 2020 , Mike set a new men’s supported fastest known time (FKT) on the Colorado Trail. His time of 7 days, 13 hours, and 16 minutes beat the previous record set in 2013 of 8 days, 7 hours, and 40 minutes!

As a rising star of the ultra running world and two time winner of the triple crown 200 milers (Bigfoot -206 miles 43,000ft, Tahoe -205.5 miles 42,000ft and MOAB -240 miles 29,500 ft - all in 60 days) Mike's is a name you'll be hearing for a long time to come.

“MOAB is in the desert... it gets pretty cold and night... so cold it drained both my pacers phone and my phone so we couldn't see the route! The trail just disappeared!”

Mike's Colorado Trail attempt was captured in the movie 'From Broken to Breaking' filmed by Matthew W Van Horn and it documents his unlikely path to success from a from non-athletic adolescence, breaking his back in a skiing injury, and job loss to world class endurance athlete.

We also grabbed a world exclusive on Mike's next challenge, and it's a big one!!!

Mike's also hosts a successful podcast called One Step Above and there's a link below so please check that out!
